HANGER PAINS

DS_2014_05_22a_edit

My little Chloe is so mellow, easy going, and always has a smile. Even when I have to wake her up out of a dead sleep she smiles and then gets right up. “GOOD MORNING!” Ellie? No way. She’d make a terrible sleeping beauty. Prince Charming would be in for a big surprise if he tried to wake her up. Not Chloe though. She’s easy peasy as they say. Why just the other day I saw her gazing out the window smiling and quietly singing to herself, “laaaa, laaa, laaa, laaa (giggle giggle).”

But don’t let that gentle smile and adorable face fool you, because when she’s hungry, watch out!

MILK, IT DOES A BODY GOOD?

Ellie used to drink about 18 ounces of milk a day. Six in the morning, six in the afternoon, and six before bedtime. That went down to 12 ounces, and by the time we left for Japan, it was maybe 6 ounces. And when we were in Japan, it went down to zero. Well, apparently the milk is processed differently in Japan because it tastes different. Aya said she had a hard time adjusting to Japanese milk in the beginning when she first moved from the States to Japan. So sure enough, Ellie wanted no part of it. Not even just a little bit. She was completely turned off. So after trying for five days and wasting milk (I sure didn’t want it, it tasted funny!), we decided to let it go. She would be without milk for just a few weeks, it’d be okay. She would be excited for milk when we got back. At least that’s what we were thinking.

FOOD BULLY

It’s funny how a little kid not even two years old can be a bully and push you around. Ellie knows where the crackers are and she likes to ask for them. Actually, demand them. “Cackas! Cackas!” When it’s snack time I give in and let her have some. We usually have four different types on-hand. Some I guess are more cookie like, and some are like those snack bars with a fruit filling. All of these are known as “cackas.” You would think someone wouldn’t be so choosy when begging.

WITH A SPOON

I’m realizing that feeding Ellie is a never ending battle.  For the most part she eats really well, and eats most things I give her.  But as she gets older and more independent, she’s going through waves of being extremely opinionated and fussy.

PICKY PICKY?

Ellie has never been a good napper. I’ve accepted it. I may whine and complain about it sometimes, but I’ve accepted it. So when the Reverse Tooth Fairy strikes and disrupts her naps, it isn’t that shocking.

One thing Ellie’salways been good at is eating. I can be walking to her from across the room and she’ll have her mouth open waiting for a spoonful of food. Sometimes during snack time, I’ll sit on the couch with a spoonful of yogurt and she’ll walk over to the spoon with her mouth open. She’ll run back and forth from the spoon stopping for a bite. I’ll just sit there. It’s like a reverse airplane situation. Instead of the spoon being the airplane, her mouth is. “Raaawwwwwrrrr… This is Captain Ellie coming in for a food pick, clear the runway! Raaawwwwrrrrr!” However, recently the Reverse Tooth Fairy has been getting bold. She’s ventured beyond using her typical tactics of destroying naps. She’s now messing with her eating habits.
