HAMMERS, FROG HATS, AND WASHING MACHINES: PART ONE

It was time for the second Japanese class, the last one before the summer break.  I was determined not to be late, and not be intimidated by the foreign language and peculiar customs.  I had been to one class before and now I knew what to expect.  I would be fearless and ready to conquer.  Watch out Japanese ladies, I may have lost my fancy man bag, but I’m ready to participate and sing your songs.

AT A BOY!? REALLY!?

SUMMERTIME!

Summer is officially here! Spring was practically nonexistent, making it seem like we went from March directly into June. I’ve been feeling a little behind like I lost a month or two. And God knows . So instead of feeling behind, busy, stressed and frazzled, I’m determined to slow down and soak up summer while I can. Summer’s here and I’ll be sporting my shades, enjoying the sounds, scents and the scenes of summertime.

I’m realizing that feeding Ellie is a never ending battle.  For the most part she eats really well, and eats most things I give her.  But as she gets older and more independent, she’s going through waves of being extremely opinionated and fussy.

THE POWER OF DAD

As I spend my days changing diapers, preparing Ellie’s food, grocery shopping, cooking, administering naps, and scheduling play dates, I often forget that I’m a dad and what that means. The people I talk to on a regular basis are all moms and we talk about the stay-at-home life for the most part. I have way more in common with my mom right now than I do with my dad too. My mom and I talk about recipes and baby stuff and things like that. While this is really exciting for my mom it can be difficult and a little isolating at times for me. But I often forget that my dad might feel a little left out now too as my mom and I talk at length about butt cream and the Reverse Tooth Fairy. With Father’s Day here, I’ve been reflecting a lot on my relationship with my dad, the things I’ve learned from him, and the power a dad can have.
