DONUT DAY!

In addition to my family, I love donuts.  I’ve written about my love for donuts before.  I was actually surprised when I went back to look.  I mention donuts a lot on here.  I don’t think I have a problem.  Yet.  But the reason I talk about it today is for a special occasion.  It is National Donut Day!  I’m embarrassed to say I had to be reminded.  For sure, someone like me would know of such an event, right?  I guess I like to think of everyday as Donut Day… well at least once a week.  So in celebration, I got two donuts. (I wanted to make sure other people had a chance to get a donut today.)  One for me, and one for Aya.  But if she’s late coming home from work, she might not get it.  Just sayin’…

Happy National Donut Day!  Go eat em up!

FAT TUESDAY!

I am no stranger to Fat Tuesday. When I reigned as President of the Donut Club at work, Fat Tuesday was like a national holiday. Each member would bring in a dozen paczkis. That would be thirteen dozen paczkis (156 to be exact). We had a mountain of paczki boxes. The paczki to person ratio was definitely in my favor. Every time I would walk by, my eyes would sparkle and I’d start drooling. Two years ago I consumed six during work hours. These were real paczkis too, not the fake paczkis from Meijer or Kroger. This was the cream of the crop from the best bakeries in the Metro Detroit area.   Continue reading “FAT TUESDAY!”

YEAR ONE: THE PARTY

When it came to celebrating Ellie’s birthday, we really didn’t want to do anything big.  We just wanted to have my folks and my brother and sister-in-law over for dinner.  It’s pretty rare that just the six of us get together, so we thought it’d be nice to do for Ellie’s birthday.  We decided to have tacos, and cupcakes.  And since it was here first birthday, I wanted to make the cupcakes from scratch.  Not like she would know the difference, but I still wanted to.  Continue reading “YEAR ONE: THE PARTY”

COOKIE MONSTERS

I’ve been having trouble getting into the Christmas spirit this year. I’m not sure why. I’m usually a very jolly fellow around this time of year. Usually starting the day after Thanksgiving I have the Christmas tunes going and am stapling lights to the house hoping to be the brightest house on the block. But this year, I didn’t even put out a wreath. I’m not sure what it is. Maybe it’s because I’m not at work excited about getting a few days off, or maybe I’m nervous about what’s to come in the New Year. I’m really not sure why, but I knew I had to make an effort to get into the spirit. This is Ellie’s first Christmas and this is when we can start building our traditions. I can’t be a Scrooge for this. So I decided to do some holiday baking to get into the mood.

HALVSIES

Ellie is half Japanese and half American.I guess if you want to get really technical, she is half Japanese, and the other half is a mix of Polish, Hungarian, Irish, English, Dutch, and CANADIAN!I just found this out last Easter. We were going through my grandma’s family papers and it turns out her grandma was born in Toronto. No one knew we were part Canadian this whole time.I felt so deceived. So to get in-touch with my roots I got a donut from Tim Horton’s.When Ellie is old enough, I will celebrate her Canadian heritage in the same way.
