SEARCH AND RESCUE

We recently finished a major renovation on our bedroom. I say finished loosely because it’s not quite finished yet. And just like many other home projects, it’s always those small little details that get lost in the shuffle. So it’s no surprise that I still need to refinish the vent cover for the air supply into the room. Right now it’s just a big open hole. Knowing how many Matchbox cars I lost as a kid, I knew it was just a matter of time before Ellie dropped something in.

TRAVEL ANXIETY

The good thing about having a Japanese wife is that you get to travel to the other side of the world and visit her family. The bad thing about having a Japanese wife is that you get to travel to the other side of the world to visit her family.

I love when we are able to travel to Japan. I really, really do, but a 12 1/2 hour direct flight to another country always proves to bring a certain level of anxiety. But now, having a toddler who is going to sit on your lap for 12 1/2 hours doesn’t just bring mild anxiety, it’s downright nerve wracking!

PREHISTORIC ADVENTURE

I woke up at 8:30am naturally, without an alarm.  The sun was shining through the window and there was a nice morning breeze.  And then it clicked, it was 8:30!?  Ellie was still asleep?  Oh my gosh, I’m late!  We were going to meet my friend Meggan and her son River at the zoo and needed to leave by 9:00am.  Of course, of all the days to sleep in, Ellie picks the day we have plans.  That seems to be her new trend, it’s like she can sense it.

A BAD CASE OF THE MONDAYS

I’ve found that since I’ve been staying at home, I don’t get the Sunday Night Blues anymore.  I don’t wake up Monday morning praying for it to be Friday.  Most often, I welcome a Monday.  It’s when I can resume my regular schedule and settle back into my routine and recoup from the weekend festivities.  Which, lately has consisted mostly of working on the bedroom project.  And last Monday I had plans, and I was excited to be out and about and away from the house for awhile.  But the problem about having plans is that they don’t always go as planned.  So you could say my Monday was just a little, off.

HAMMERS, FROG HATS, AND WASHING MACHINES: PART TWO

Next up, a puppet show.  The effort they put into making this happen is quite impressive, so I can’t complain about it at all.  They have a big backdrop, they do voices, and sometimes even costume changes.  I try to follow along, but this one threw me for a loop.  The teacher came out from “backstage” wearing rain boots, a raincoat, and an umbrella.  She was speaking very expressively and smiley.  And then a baby bunny puppet appeared.  They had a conversation about the rain coming?  This is what I thought until the next part.
