As part of our Easter tradition, every year we have an egg cracking competition. The cracked eggs are then used to make deviled eggs for dinner. Last year’s tournament ended with grandma as the reigning champion. But this year Ellie would be eligible for competition, so anything could happen.

2012: Easter Dinner

Always one of the best meals of the year. It’s a tough choice between this and Thanksgiving, but I think I pick Thanksgiving. Aya picks this. Easter dinner is always at my parents house and my mom does 98% of the cooking. I brought coleslaw and my brother brought carrots. My mom did the rest which included: fresh and smoked kielbasa, homemade peirogis (not homemade by her, but some lady named Jenny), ham, ambrosia salad, deviled eggs, sauerkraut, and homemade bread. Ugh, what a meal! So good!

For dessert she always makes a homemade banana lamb cake (it’s shaped like a lamb). And then as a special treat since my dad loves zombies, we made him his own zombie chocolate Easter Bunny. Good times, Happy Easter!

 

THE ELITE EIGHT

Every Easter my family has an Easter egg cracking contest. This is when we go head to head, egg shell to egg shell, and try to crack the other person’s egg. I used to think everybody did this when I was young. And when I found out we were the only ones, I thought everybody else was crazy. As I get older, I’m finding out we are the crazy ones. I guess this is an old Polish tradition. I don’t claim to know the history, but according to Google it’s an Eastern European thing. So I know there are other people who crack their eggs, just nobody I know.
